Raising the Bar for Oakland Students

More than 200+ students, parents, and community leaders are expected to gather to rally for improved schools in Oakland, then march to the OUSD Board meeting. Families in Action, an advocacy group who works to improve the quality of Oakland schools, will announce new data that shows math and reading comprehension rates remain unacceptably stagnant – 80% of Oakland’s Black students cannot read at grade level and 90% are not at grade level for math. Similarly, 80% of Latino students are not at grade level.
